Funerals
The Christian meaning of death is revealed in the light of the Paschal mystery of the death and resurrection of Christ in whom resides our only hope. The Christian who dies in Christ Jesus is “away from the body and at home with the Lord.” 1681 Catechism of the Catholic Church
“The Christian funeral is a liturgical celebration of the Church. The ministry of the Church in this instance aims at expressing efficacious communion with the deceased, at the participation in that communion of the community gathered for the funeral, and at the proclamation of eternal life to the community.” 1684 Catechism of the Catholic Church
Funerals in the Dardanup-Boyanup Parish are arranged by contacting the Parish Priest / Priest in Charge. It is customary to make an offering for the use of the Church on the occasion of a funeral. The customary donation is in the range of $200. The stipend for the priest who performs the funeral is also by donation and is normally in the range of $200 also.
At the death of a Christian, we as the Church pray on behalf of the deceased in the knowledge that death is not the end, and that we can be supported in coming to be with God through the prayers made for us after our death.
The Eucharistic Celebration, commemorates Christ’s own death and resurrection, and is central focus of the Christian Funeral. this brings hope and consolation to the living, and helps remind us of the eternal life that awaits us, where we will re reunited with the deceased.
